Applied Ethnobotanical & Herbalist Services

"Herbal Inquiries"

Herbal Inquiries works where plants, people, and memory meet. I help people learn how herbs have been used and how to use them safely. I help landowners and planners learn which plants their ground holds. I help families and communities record plant knowledge before it is lost. I help groups learn the plants of their own region. These are education and research services, not medical care, and I do not sell herbs. Quotes and first 10 minute conversations are always free.

Before you book there are some downloadable documents for reading in the relevant tabs' footers as applicable. Read them before we begin, so that nothing about the fees, the traditions I teach from, my limits, or your consent comes as a surprise. Pricing and Terms Quotes and first conversations are always free. I price at the low end while the practice builds its record, and a quote holds for 60 days. The initial consultation, about 90 minutes with your written wellness plan, is $60. Follow-up consultations are $30 an hour, and a pack of three is $80. Field surveys run from $450 for a small parcel, and larger work is billed at $45 an hour. I do not sell herbs or products. Discounts are available for first-time clients, veterans, Tribal clients, and environmental non-profits. The full document lists every fee, the cancellation and payment policies, and the discounts. Healing Approaches My herbal education draws on three inherited ways of paying attention, each with its own history, its own teachers, and its own way of asking what a body needs: Physiomedicalist herbalism and its tissue states, historical American ethnobotany rooted in place, and an inherited Ashkenazi and Hungarian folk healing tradition. I name all three because honesty about where knowledge comes from is part of the work. Where a use comes from a specific tradition, I say so and credit it. The document sets out each tradition, how the three meet in a consult, and the Connections Paradigm, which carries the Jewish healing strand's attention to a person's relationship to themselves, to others, and to what they hold sacred. Scope of Practice Herbal Inquiries is education. It is not medical care. I do not diagnose, treat, or prescribe, and I never advise anyone to start, stop, or change a medication. I am not a physician, naturopath, acupuncturist, nurse, dietitian, pharmacist, or any other licensed health professional. I am a general member of the American Herbalists Guild and am working toward fuller AHG recognition, and I am insured. I serve clients located in Texas or Washington. The document sets out what I do and do not do, when I work alongside your prescriber, when I refer you out, how I protect your records, and how I treat plants and the people who hold knowledge of them. Client Forms New clients read and sign the Informed Consent and Educational Disclosure before the first consultation. The packet also holds an optional Mentor Case Consultation Consent. Sign it only if you agree to let me review your case with a mentor by alias code. Declining does not affect your consultations. Your Health History Intake Form and 3-Day Diet Diary are given to you with your alias code once you book.

Finding Herbs for Your Wellness

How do I learn which herbs suit me, and use them safely?

For curious beginners, people tending their own health who want to understand plants, caregivers, and anyone who wants herbal traditions explained plainly. These are educational consults. You are a learner, not a patient.

Initial Consultation

Most of what a plant can do for you starts with what you notice, and this session is mostly listening. I want to understand the whole person, not a symptom or a disease, because the connection of mind, body, and spirit does not show up in a questionnaire.

A two part intake.

  1. At home, you sign the consent, keep a three day diet diary, and gather a list of your medications and supplements.

  2. Then we meet, and I ask your health history aloud, so your story is heard in your own words. I need to see the patterns in your conditions over time so I can suggest herbs responsibly and never interfere with your existing medical care. The intake is held online by video, so you can join from a private spot at home and your story stays between us.

For follow-up visits, you may choose to meet in person at a secluded bench at Brushy Creek Lake Park in Cedar Park, away from the walking path, with folding chairs and shade set up for us. A quiet bench away from the path is private in practice, though it is a public place and technically offers less privacy than a closed room. Many people find that meeting in person, outdoors, builds rapport. The choice is yours. I ask your health history only where no one else can hear, and I will stop and move us if that changes. At an in-person visit I may offer you a cup of plain tea as a treat and a courtesy, the way I would offer any guest. It is not part of the service and carries no fee. You may leave with a few simple food or lifestyle steps before any herbs. Appointments are held on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

Constitutional Pattern Mapping
A plant suits a pattern (constitutional, life history, family history, lifestyle), not a diagnosis, and the map shows the pattern in plain words. It is a picture of where you run hot or cold, damp or dry, tense or lax, wired or worn down. It is a framework for observation, not a diagnosis, and I use one framework and keep it consistent from visit to visit.

Self-Observation Experiments
Noticing how food, caffeine, and sleep actually affect you is the skill every other herbal skill rests on. These are short guided experiments on breakfast, caffeine, or sleep, which you bring to your next visit.

Written Wellness Plan

You keep what you learned in a form you can return to, tailored to you. It follows within about a week and starts with a few small changes to take by your next visit, a few food and lifestyle steps, safety notes on your habits, your medications, and any herbs, and the traditional uses of the herbs we discuss. If herbs fit your pattern and your path, I describe a blend suited to you, not a generic bag of herbs for whatever ails you, and point you to vendors. I do not sell herbs and have no financial interest in any vendor. I explain the reason behind each step, and I answer in plain words any warnings you may find online. You complete your baseline wellness check-in before making any change, and we track from there.

Pricing Options:
• 15 minute introductory call: free
• Two part intake, up to two hours in all, including review of your diet diary and your written wellness plan: $60

Follow-Up Consultations

A plan changes as you watch how it fits you, and each visit adjusts it.
Sessions of 30 to 60 minutes that revisit your plan, check every herb and medication against current interaction references, and adjust from what you observed. Plan on about three visits. I book your next visit before you leave, ideally within one to two weeks.

Wellness Check-In
Before you change anything, you complete one baseline survey built around your own patterns and goals, so the questions fit you and not a generic template. You enter only your alias code, never your name. After your intake, you complete the short survey at least five times a week for the first month, or for the first two weeks if you have not chosen a follow-up pack. With a pack, you then complete it every other week until your pack is used up. We look at the trend together at your visits, so you can see how your wellness patterns change as you follow your plan and we can decide what to keep, adjust, or drop. The scores show where you are heading over several weeks. They do not prove that any one herb or change caused an effect.

Pricing Options:
• Follow-up consultation: $30 per hour
• Reduced fee 3-pack of 60 minute visits: $80 total

Consultations for Couples

When two people share a kitchen, one person's plan can quietly undo the other's. A partner who runs hot and dry and a partner who runs cold and damp may need nearly opposite meals, and cooking two dinners every night rarely lasts.

If you both want to be seen, each of you completes your own intake, with your own consent, alias code, baseline survey, and wellness plan, exactly as described above. Your information stays separate unless each of you agrees in writing to share what the shared table needs. Then we meet together to look at how your patterns meet in the kitchen. Couples receive a better rate than two individual intakes.

The Shared Table

A tailored document that brings both of your needs into one set of meal plans, recipes, and shopping lists, so one dinner works for both of you without either of you giving something up. It lists what to adjust at the stove or on the plate, such as a spice, a cooking method, a temperature, or a portion, and it does not say why either of you needs it. Your wellness is built into the food you already cook together.

Pricing Options:

  • Household package, two individual initial consultations, a 60 minute joint session, and The Shared Table: $220

  • Follow-up consultations for either or both of you: $30 per hour
