Welcome to the website of Harris Anthropological Research LLC (“HAR,” “we,” “our,” or “us”). These Terms of Use govern your access to this site and your engagement with HAR’s professional, educational, and research services. By using this website or entering into a service agreement with HAR, you agree to comply with the following terms.

1. Website Ownership and Purpose

This site is owned and operated by Harris Anthropological Research LLC, a veteran-owned consultancy based in Cedar Park, Texas. HAR provides interdisciplinary services in user experience research, business intelligence analytics, and cultural heritage education and consulting. This website also supports HAR’s educational content delivery, including homeschool-oriented coursework that may involve minors under parental supervision. HAR does not sell personal data, operate as a marketplace, or facilitate commercial exchange of cultural materials. The Managing Member and Owner is John S. Harris.

2. User Eligibility and Content Advisory

Use of this website is intended for individuals 18 years of age or older. Educational services involving minors require parent or guardian permission. Minors may access educational content only under supervision. By enrolling a minor in HAR’s courses, you affirm consent to data handling, participation policies, and these Terms.

HAR’s research and educational materials may address anthropological, historical, or cultural subjects that some individuals or groups may consider sensitive or objectionable. Such content is presented for scholarly and educational purposes only. HAR complies with applicable laws regarding objectionable materials and does not promote or endorse discriminatory, exploitative, or unlawful content.

3. Commercial Terms and Cost Responsibilities

HAR offers custom proposals, subscriptions, hourly consultations, and flat-fee packages. Services begin only upon written acceptance of an invoice. Pricing is communicated transparently through quotes or published information. Deposits are required for non-hourly and subscription-based services. Additional fees may apply for travel, artifact preparation, or complex deliverables. Significant changes to project scope may require re-quoting and written approval before continuation.

Clients may also be responsible for third-party costs associated with record procurement, including but not limited to,

  • Cultural resource database access and search fees.

  • Digital imagery, map reproduction, or archival copy fees.

  • Licensing or usage fees for proprietary datasets or copyrighted materials.

  • Consultation fees, research participant incentives, or honorarium fees

  • Card processing fees

  • Curation costs

Such costs will be either paid directly by the client or promptly reimbursed to HAR upon invoicing.

4. Return and Refund Policy

Due to the nature of HAR’s services and intellectual products, returns are not accepted. Refunds may be issued under the following conditions,

  • If no work has begun

  • If HAR determines that continuation is not feasible due to ethical, operational, or scope-related concerns

Refunds will not be issued if a client requests work that HAR reasonably believes violates its ethical commitments, including but not limited to,

  • Deceptive UX design or manipulation.

  • Misuse of cultural, ecological, participant data.

  • Misuse of intellectual property of third-party materials against terms of use a client agreed to respect

  • Demands which compromise privacy, consent, or research integrity.

  • Violate other terms of section 5 and 8.

Such requests may constitute a breach of contract and result in service discontinuation without refund, if persisting after reminding the client of these terms of use.

5. Intellectual Property and Third-Party Materials

All original content, including course materials, research insights, typologies, media, and downloadable assets, is owned by HAR unless otherwise credited. Clients receive a non-exclusive license to use deliverables for agreed-upon purposes. Redistribution, modification, or use beyond scope requires written permission.

Some materials procured or incorporated on behalf of the client, such as images, maps, or archival records, may be subject to third-party copyright or licensing agreements. In such cases, both HAR and the client must adhere to the originating party’s terms of use. Clients are responsible for respecting any usage restrictions, attribution requirements, or licensing conditions associated with these materials.

6. Limitation of Liability

HAR is not liable for damages arising from site use, service outcomes, or interpretation of insights. Professional advice is provided with integrity, but application and implementation are the client’s responsibility. HAR makes no guarantees beyond the scope of agreed deliverables. HAR is not liable for third-party platforms or tools used in service delivery, including email, analytics, or secure storage providers.

7. Indemnification

By using this website or engaging HAR’s services, you agree to indemnify and hold harmless HAR and its affiliates from any claims, damages, or liabilities resulting from your use or misuse of services, breach of these terms, or independent application of HAR’s work.

8. Ethical Boundaries and Prohibited Requests

HAR adheres to the ethical codes of the Register of Professional Archaeologists (RPA) and the User Experience Professionals Association (UXPA). As such,

  • HAR does not appraise or facilitate trade in antiquities.

  • HAR does not engage in deceptive design, coercive recruitment, or manipulative interface strategies.

  • HAR does not perform tasks that violate informed consent, participant dignity, or cultural stewardship.

  • HAR does not use AI for legal interpretation, regulatory analysis, or cultural particularities.

  • HAR does not predetermine findings or conclusions to suit client interests, all interpretations are grounded in evidence and methodological integrity.

These boundaries are further detailed in HAR’s Privacy Policy. Any request that HAR reasonably believes violates these principles will be considered a breach of contract. HAR reserves the right to discontinue service without refund in such cases.

9. Accessibility Commitment

HAR is committed to providing accessible content and inclusive design for diverse audiences. Our digital and educational offerings align with ethical UX standards and incorporate accessibility and bias mitigation wherever applicable.

10. Modification of Terms

HAR may revise these Terms to reflect changes in law, ethics, or operational practices. Updates will be posted to this page, and continued use of the site or services constitutes acceptance of the latest version.

12. Governing Law

These Terms are governed by the laws of the United States and the State of Texas, without regard to conflicts of law.

13. Dispute Resolution

HAR will make good-faith efforts to resolve disputes informally, including optional mediation. If resolution is not achieved, disputes will be handled under Texas jurisdiction in accordance with applicable laws.
